Ideas of Words

Ideas of Words

Reading and writing have always been two of my favorite pastimes, but recently, I've uncovered them in a different light.  The value of the written word is essential to our understanding of empathy and our relationship to other people.  We read to acknowledge our situation in the greater context of the world, and we write to express our opinions about what we want the world to be.

I read because I want to understand people, and I want to experience events and places that I would not ordinarily have the opportunity to learn about or visit.  If I do get to attend one of those events or visit one of those places, I am informed about the history because of my previous reading.  This is why I love to research before I make a decision, before I travel, and before I embark on an adventure.

I write because I want to share my thoughts, and blogging is now my new medium.  I realized this semester that I have not been writing as much as I want to, so I decided to dedicate a good portion of my time in the coming months to remedy that.  This blog will see me through my escapades in Edinburgh, Scotland, my summer in Greenville, and my senior year at Furman.

Who knows what the future will hold?  That's what I hope to discover through Serendipity.
