"Prescription for the Soul"
Vinyl seats, bright colors, hot dogs, and milkshakes all of the time. Who doesn't love a good old-fashioned soda shop? I had the opportunity to visit one today in Greenville, and I was completely enamored. The Pickwick Pharmacy and Soda Fountain on the edge of Augusta Road seems out of place for our modern taste, but it was still as charming as it could be. Part pharmacy, part store, and part soda shop, the Pickwick offers soda fountain food from deviled egg to pimiento cheese sandwiches and milkshakes and smoothies galore.
The Pickwick's motto is "prescription for the soul," and I believe that that encapsulates the delight found in a place like this. It's a touch of the 1950s in 2015, and we need a reminder of those former days once in a while. We get so caught up in our technology and our constant communication with other people via social media that we need to stop and take a step back. I used this "blast from the past" today to remind myself of why I love reminiscing in general.
Over milkshakes and mayhem in a soda shop, conversations took place in a simpler time. The enjoyment came from trying new flavors and deciding about what skirt to wear to the dance. I wish I could have experienced that lifestyle just to contrast it with my current questions of what to order at Starbucks (reference my last post if you want to know) and what to post on my Instagram (follow me @strikesofluck using the Instagram button at the bottom of the page).
As we near the end of 2015, this is the time to remember the good times of the year and our goals for the next. Enjoy the family time, experience the holiday season, and remember what you want to improve in your life for 2016 and the years to come. We have this great potential to harness and point in whatever direction we choose.
Lucky Strike of the Day: In addition to my soda shop adventure, I bought some paintbrushes and canvas for new artistic endeavors before I jet off to Edinburgh. More information about painting and traveling to come!
