Rory or Lorelai

Rory or Lorelai

Disclaimer: If you've never seen Gilmore Girls, there are some spoilers below.

Friday, November 25. The day that Gilmore Girls will change forever. Everyone has their own Gilmore Girls story, and here's mine:

I grew up watching Gilmore Girls. The show ran from 2000-2007, and I remember coming home from school and watching it at 4 pm on the WB or the CW. I remember growing up around the same age as Rory when I was in middle and high school and relating to the books, the friendships, and the coffee. When I began my college research and application process, I rewatched the episodes where Rory applies, decides between Harvard, Yale, and Princeton, and finally chooses Yale.

This month, I decided to go back and relive the seventh season in preparation for Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life that comes out this Friday. Until I started watching, I didn't realize that Rory and I are now in the same boat. We are both college seniors, we're trying to figure out our next steps, and we're trying to evaluate what's important and where we fit into the world. It was a scary parallel to my own life, and I remember thinking that my senior year of college felt so far away when I watched Gilmore Girls in my younger days.

Now, it's here. The Gilmore Girls will come back, and we will anxiously count down the minutes until 12:01 am on Friday. Never mind Thanksgiving, never mind Black Friday. We are obsessed with those last four words

One of my best friends and I joke that our relationship is like the one between Rory and Lorelai. How did I change from Rory to Lorelai? I'm still in the Rory-senior-in-college-unsure-about-life phase, yet I'm Lorelai in our relationship. I only hope I can impart the same wisdom on her that Lorelai did for Rory.

Lorelai and Rory. See the resemblance?

Lorelai and Rory. See the resemblance?

The end of season seven is heartbreaking and beautiful at the same time.  The question on everyone's mind is, "Will Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life live up to the excitement?" Well, we'll just have to count the minutes, wait, and see.

Lucky Strike of the Day: Happy Thanksgiving! I hope everyone had an intentional, grateful, and thankful experience today.
